Hey Cake Chums and a happy Tuesday to you all! I hope you are having a great start to the week…
If you have been following my Instagram Stories over the last few days, you will have seen that I spent the latter half of last week and the weekend up in Leeds visiting one of my absolute favourite cake talents (and if you’re not, you can find me on Instagram here).
Yup, I was at Zoe’s Fancy Cakes helping her crack on with her much-anticipated, yet-to-be-named debut book.
Having been able to sneak quite a detailed peek at what she has in store for us all, I can guarantee you, without question, that it will certainly be worth the wait. With everything from basic figure modelling, right through to some pretty advanced projects, it is going to be a book you are going to want to add to your collection.
While I was there, we might also have spent a morning shooting a very special YouTube collaboration, which was a lot of fun, so be sure to keep an eye out for that very soon too. You can subscribe to Zoe’s YouTube Channel here and, if you’re not already subscribed to Mr Baker’s Cakes on YouTube, you can find me here.
This week, I will be launching a brand new series on my channel: Mr Baker’s Cakes’ Cake Basics. Over the next few weeks, I will be covering the various stages of cake decorating, from baking a tasty layered cake, perfect for both stacking and carving, right through to torting, filling, crumb coating and covering with sugar paste.
While for many of you, I’m sure it’ll probably be pretty basic (the clue is in the name, I guess!), I am hoping that the series will allow me to be able to unpick some of the basic skills needed to create a fully decorated cake. And as I go on to create more complex tutorial projects in the future, the series will hopefully also provide a good foundation for those who might need to go back and get caught up on any skills that they wish to develop first.
To provide an example, if I later go on and create a tutorial to make one of my giftbox cakes… within that video, I would be able to skip the basics of construction and covering, as I would be able to direct people back to the basics series to get all caught up on those steps first… does that make sense?
Oh, and speaking of YouTube, thank you to those of you who got in touch after last week’s video, sharing some of my favourite cake products of 2019. I had a lot of fun filming that one and it was great to be able to share some of my favourite tools and consumables of the last twelve months with you all.
I am hoping to be able to continue to provide regular reviews of new arrivals on the cake scene throughout 2020, so if there are any tools, gadgets, consumables or anything else you would like me to check out for you, be sure to let me know! You KNOW that there will be plenty of giveaways sprinkled throughout my videos too, so again, if you haven’t already subscribed to my channel, rectify that ASAP!
And if there are any other videos you would like to see me shoot during 2020, including any other guests you would like to see join me in the Mr Baker’s Cakes kitchen, be sure to get in touch and let me know. I am always super excited to hear from you!
Other than all of that, the rest of this week will see me crack on and finish a rather special cake collaboration project, ahead of its release towards the end of this month; begin assembling content for this week’s issue of Something Sweet magazine (catch up on the latest issue at this link by the way), which also features a super exciting competition; and start to think about how I will be marking my rapidly approaching birthday in a couple of weeks. If you have any ideas for how we can celebrate my milestone with either a fun YouTube video or perhaps something special right here on the blog, again, feel free to get in touch and let me know.
But I think that’s you all caught up on my latest news for now, so let me wish you a fantastic rest-of-the-week and I shall see you all at 6pm on Friday for a brand new video!
Until then… happy caking!
