Still full of lovely stuff: Candice Brown recreates small-scale version of famous ŠKODA Fabia cake

Do you remember back in 2007 when ŠKODA assembled a massive team of bakers to create what is possibly the greatest advert of all time?

Why am I even asking? Of course you do!

Well, the team at ŠKODA UK have been bitten by the baking bug once again, teaming up with the 2016 winner of The Great British Bake Off, Candice Brown to launch a miniature version of the iconic Fabia Cake and they got in touch to tell me all about it…

More than a decade after the original advert took to our screens, Candice drew inspiration from the new sporty ŠKODA Fabia Monte Carlo that launched in September to create her rather more manageable bake.

The car’s ‘interior’ was built from six layers of fluffy lemon sponge sandwiched together with a mouth-watering citrus-infused buttercream, before being carved to form the shape of the car. For the ‘exterior’, Candice used fondant icing to sculpt the newly designed LED headlights, wheels, windscreen wipers, front grille and the detail of the ŠKODA badge to create her own miniature imitation of the car.

Candice commented: “Everyone remembers and loves the original ad so when I got the challenge through to recreate the new Fabia out of cake, I jumped at it. We’re encouraging everyone and anyone to have a go to see if they can recreate the car.

“The beauty of baking is that it doesn’t matter how good or bad you are, regardless of what it looks like cake is always delicious, so you can’t go far wrong…hopefully.”

The original cake, which starred in the hit 2007 TV ad, was nearly four metres long and one-and-a-half metres high, but Candice’s recipe for a small-scale version is slightly less intimidating for anyone who wants to have a go at home.

In fact, ŠKODA are actively encouraging aspiring bakers to create their own version of Candice’s cake and share it online using #FABIAcake – with all who enter being in with a chance of winning a baking lesson with Candice.

The competition closes on Monday 5 November, so you have got a bit of time to have a practise first if you fancy it and you can download Candice’s recipe for her tasty lemon sponge right here.

Oh, and if you’d rather have a go in the real thing, the new ŠKODA Fabia is available in UK dealerships now, from £12,840 OTR.
