My day at Cake International on Tour 2019

Hey cake chums and welcome back to the blog.

This weekend saw me head up to the Excel, London to check out Cake International on Tour. In the midst of a rather hectic couple of months at Mr Baker’s Blog HQ, I was looking forward to the chance to have a bit of a break, meet up with some of my favourite cake chums and generally have an all-round fantastic time.

As you saw in my preview video, we had been promised a whole host of exciting sights and exhibits to get our teeth into (not literally, unfortunately), so I was looking forward to checking out Sweet Wedding in Bloom, Cake Side of the Moon, the Cake Live Championships, the wonderful demonstrations and, of course, the always-inspirational cake competitions.

Now, you may have noticed that in most of my other videos from the shows, I have developed a terrible habit of forgetting to record while I’m chatting to people, so this time I made a conscious effort to get some of those conversations on film. Now I’m not saying I did a brilliant job of it, but I’ll let you decide for yourself.

Head straight to the video here!

If you would like to find out more about some of the fabulous new products you saw in the video, you can pre-order Natalie’s new book at her website here, check out Molly’s Creature Creator at this link and to order the Dinkydoodle Carry Cake Kits, you can head here. #notsponsored

I’d like to say a massive congratulations to everyone who helped make this first ever Cake International on Tour a huge success and an extra special well done to all of the wonderful competitors. I swear the standard of work in the competitions gets higher and higher with every show!

If you fancy checking out the full show in Birmingham in November, then head to the Cake International website now to book your tickets. You can find it here.

Thanks so much for checking out my latest video guys and I’ll see you soon.

Take care!

God Save the King. The BakeKing.

One of the breakout stars of the latest series of Channel 4’s Extreme Cake Makers and social media darling, Ben Cullen – The BakeKing – is quickly becoming a favourite with cakers and caking fans alike.

After studying Art and Graphic design at Chester University, Ben dabbled with graphic design, before entering into a tattoing apprenticeship, but it wasn’t until he was shown an example of a decorated cake by a customer, whilst tattooing in 2014, that Ben was inspired to create his first novelty cake – for his dad’s birthday. In time honoured tradition, friends and family started to ask him to contribute his sculpted wares for their birthdays and eventually The BakeKing was born.

I’m lucky enough to be able to consider Ben one of my best cakey friends and can genuinely attest to the fact that he is an all-round top bloke. So naturally, after spending a weekend starring as his devoted groupie at November’s Cake International (fortunately, I didn’t make it into the final edit of the show), I figured it was only fair for Ben to return the favour with an exclusive interview for Mr Baker’s Blog…
