It’s GDPR Eve…!

Evening all!

As you have probably guessed from the title of this evening’s blog, I am talking GDPR – or the General Data Protection Regulation to give it its full name.

Coming into force tomorrow, Friday 25 May 2018, the new legislation is designed to “harmonise” data privacy laws across Europe as well as give greater protection and rights to individuals. Within the GDPR there are large changes for the public, as well as for businesses and bodies that handle personal information.

Like most people, I am pretty unsure of how the new laws and guidelines affect me and, if I’m honest, as the ‘hobby’ writer of a blog with no advertising or affiliate sponsorship, whether or not I need to adhere to the new guidance is a bit of a murky area. However, I figure it’s better to adhere to the guidance unnecessarily than to fail to adhere and be caught out later.

As such, you can now find a link to my new Privacy Policy at the bottom of each page of the blog and you will also be asked to consent to the use of cookies when you next return to Mr Baker’s Blog from Mr Baker’s Cakes. Ultimately, organisations need to be able to offer their users the option of using their websites whilst rejecting the use of cookies, but unfortunately the infrastructure to allow me to do this is not in place yet. I hope to be able to rectify this soon. In the meantime, if you wish to visit my blog, you will need to accept the use of cookies, I’m afraid.

Cookies… geddit?!

As explained in my Privacy Policy, I request very little in the way of information from my readers – subscribers of course have entered their email addresses to receive emails each time I post and similarly, to comment on posts, you will also have needed to enter your name and your email address. In addition, the software I use to run the blog collects some additional information automatically, which is all explained in my Privacy Policy.

Please be reassured that I do not share your personal information with third-parties and I do not store the information collected about your visit to my blog for any use other than to analyse content performance.

If you have previously provided your email address and opted to subscribe to Mr Baker’s Blog from Mr Baker’s Cakes (or indeed decide to do so in the future), you can change your mind at any time – including now – by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of each and every email I send out. Not only will you stop receiving emails from Mr Baker’s Blog from Mr Baker’s Cakes, all of your data will immediately be removed from my site too.

If you have any questions about any of this, then don’t forget to check out my Privacy Policy via the link at the bottom of the page. You can also add a comment or why not email me directly?

Until next time… xx
