It’s time to get our Squires on…

So this weekend marks the return of the Squires Kitchen Exhibition to Farnham Maltings and I am excited! Although it’s only about an hour away from me – practically next door compared to some of the trips I take to indulge my cakey passions – I have never been! But that is all about to change, as today I will be heading along, with my blogger hat on, to find out what it is all about.

With a whole host of live demonstrations by star guests to inspirational designs in the Wedding Cake Showroom and Competition Hall, I am told there is much to see and do and I am particularly looking forward to checking out the fabulous creative talents of the entrants in the Squires Kitchen Annual Cake Decorating Competition.

I am also looking forward to perusing the wide array of stands in the Marketplace, where leading sugarcraft suppliers will be sharing their latest tools and materials, with special show offers – although, I hope I can show a bit more restraint that I would have done in the past. But, you know, if there’s something I really NEED…

It’s sure to be a really fun weekend, so if you fancy joining us, you can buy tickets here. Be sure to ping me a Facebook message if you are heading down and hopefully I will see some of you there! xx

‪The word is… ‘Confelicity‬’

So I learned a new word over Christmas.

If you don’t follow Susie Dent (the genius in Countdown’s Dictionary Corner) on Twitter, then you are missing out on her regular posts that introduce us to some of the more obscure delights of our beautiful language.

One such delight, she tweeted on Christmas Day:

This word, I think, sums me up perfectly. I genuinely love seeing people succeed! It brings me sheer unadulterated pleasure! Or should I say, confelicious pleasure?

Although cakes remain very much my hobby, it has introduced me to a whole world of amazing professional cake artists and also the struggles that they endure every single day to make a living from all things sugar.

So when good things happen to them, it makes me want to shout it from the rooftops! Be it winning international awards, like my friend Vicky of The Yellow Bee Cake Company (for the last two years running, I might add!):

Or today…

I’m sure you’ve seen my talk about my cake-bestie, Nicola before – she is the talent behind so many amazing Portsmouth-based wedding businesses: her cakes, complete venue dressing services too numerous to mention and all the essential hireables, like photo booths, sweet carts and more. She’s also the person who encouraged a humble young (ahem) amateur like me to start competing in cakes competitions, contributing to magazines and the like, which is probably one of the main reasons why I am even here talking to you now…

For years now, we’ve been talking about her bringing all of her businesses together under one umbrella and I’m so excited to say that it is finally happening! Today she is launching Weddings by Nicola – Portsmouth’s one-stop-shop for all your wedding needs!

I’m so looking forward to attending her launch party this evening and I can’t wait to see her shine like the star she is!

Congratulations Nicola! Love you! 😘

PS. If you’re getting married in 2018, why not come and join us tonight at the Square Tower in Portsmouth. A little bird tells me there may well be some launch-exclusive deals ready to be snatched up!
