I thought I’d just check in and let you know that it’s Thursday and you know what that means… there’s a new video up on my YouTube channel!
In this week’s video, there’s a bit of a mini tour of my cake room, a sneaky preview of my plans for my brand new cake studio, an unplanned-and-rather-random dash to my local hardware store (don’t ask!) and a bit of a DIY #fail thrown in for good measure.
As you saw in my exclusive interview with Kate Parsons earlier this week, on Friday, I was invited to attend the rescheduled launch of the new Cake Design Academy – The Sugar Lair, where we were joined by a rather Extreme Cake Maker and his paw-some creation (see what I did there?!), and naturally I brought you guys along for the ride!

Quick PSA: Not all of my videos are going to be event vlogs – I promise! I’m working hard to sort out my new cake studio, after which you can expect lots of more cake-focused content.

I have a little confession… I am the master of procrastination (it used to be in my Twitter bio, so it must be true!).
I am supposed to be sat here writing the latest issue of Something Sweet, but instead, so far this morning, I have run some errands, swung by the post office depot and am now debating whether to whip up a quick lemon cake, shoot an impromptu Facebook live or head over to Amazon to buy all the goodies in my saved shopping basket… #thestruggleisreal
I’m also very aware that I haven’t posted anything this week – but it’s not through want of trying, I promise. I actually have my next post ready to go, but I’m just waiting on a lil’ brand contribution to finish It off. We’re working cross-time zones though, which always tricky.
Because of that, and coupled with feeling a wee bit under the weather this week, I hadn’t actually scheduled any other content. But I guess, if nothing else, this rambling post – about nothing much of consequence – will serve to remind you all that I exist, that I’m still alive and that I am kinda working on content… 😉
One of the reasons why I was debating a Facebook live is that this week has been a particularly busy week for my PO Box, with goodies making their way to me from PME, the darling Breda O’Brien of Crafty Designs and a couple more besides.
I thought it could be fun to do a live unboxing video (perhaps giving you a taste of some of the things you can expect from my upcoming YouTube channel), but when I looked at the current state of my cake room, stuffed with in-progress collaboration pieces, some demo-development projects, a pile of competition prizes that I need to send out (they will be on the way soon – I promise!) and just general mess and clutter, I realised it might be better to maintain the illusion that I am always super neat and tidy.
I really can’t wait to get cracking on my new much larger studio!
Instead, I think you will have to continue to wait a little while longer for my official launch video and I suppose I ought to get back to writing this week’s issue – oh, which will probably be published a little earlier tomorrow, by the way. I’m off to Cardiff for the day, for another highly secretive cakey adventure (all will be revealed soon), and so will be hitting that publish button before I hit the road.
But don’t forget, as of February, Mr Baker’s Blog will be becoming a lot more organised, with my regular content schedule coming into play.
As I explained a couple of weeks ago, the plan is to feature some new and original content every Tuesday, sticking to this schedule:
First Tuesday – a brand new recipe from Mr Baker’s Cakes.
Second Tuesday – a new Mr Baker’s Cakes sugarcraft tutorial.
Third Tuesday – an exclusive interview with one of our favourite cake artists.
Fourth Tuesday – a guest tutorial, created exclusively for the readers of Mr Baker’s Blog.
This will, of course, continue to be supplemented by my weekly online magazine, Something Sweet – published every Sunday – and ad hoc additional posts as and when I write them, featuring product reviews, event coverage, comment pieces and so on. These will also be joined by new and original video content from my YouTube channel and the plan is to upload once a week, at least in the beginning. I’m still getting my head around video editing, after all. This may increase in the future, if I get better at it!
